MK Cup 200 Inaugural Season 2023

MK Cup 200 Inaugural Season 2023

Richard Webb topped the inaugural Cup 200 season featuring the new Hayabusa powered MK Sports Cars Seven-esque chassis. He won eight of the 14 races, which saw 12 drivers sample the new category.

Webb won all but one venue over the course of the season, with his highlight event coming at Anglesey, where he was on top of all three races for the triple header.  The 2022 Sports 1000 champion also managed a couple of fourth place finishes overall in the Sports 100 races, which came and Cadwell Park and Silverstone.

Long time 750 Motor Club racer Dave Watson was just 24 points shy of Webb at the end of the season in his Atomic Racing machine.  Watson won four races over the season including in a soaking Silverstone, where he starred to finish third overall in Sports 1000.  He was also a winner at Snetteron, where he pipped Lewis Ward to the flag by 0.01 second after a late race charge.  He won both races at Oulton Park, the only race where Webb was not on top.

Former Sports Specials and F1000 champion Matthew Booth took third place in the points, despite missing a couple of the events.  He started the season with a victory at his local Croft Circuit and was unable to replicate the feat again.  Karl Alliban was ever present over the season to finish fourth in the points but missed out on a chance of victory at Cadwell park, when Ben Britten came through to win on one of two outings.

Chris Wilkinson narrowly beat French engineer Alexandre Alloro to finish fifth in the standings.  A quarter of Cup 200 driven by Webb, Watson, Booth and John Cutmore shone at the end of season Birkett Relay, finishing a hugely impressive fourth oversall on scratch, only behind sports prototypes, proving the speed and reliability of the cars boding well for what looks like an even bigger and better 2024 Cup 200 season.
